How long have you been working at the ReStore:
3 yrs? Not sure, time flies with this retirement gig!
What’s your favorite part of working at the Restore? The people! They’re friendly, good hearted and hardworking. They most certainly work harder than me.
Previous or current profession: retired Clinical Lab Scientist at UW Hospital and Clinics
First job: I was a fountain girl at the local A & W Root Beer Stand and put together orders for the car hops. I could make a mean twisty ice cream cone and black cow float. Of course, I ate many, many, many of those!
Hobbies: Baking, of course! Helping with the grandkids, throwing dinner parties, going on walks, going to the gym, golfing, snowshoeing, reading.
My friends describe me as:  Kind, thoughtful, organized, funny
What is the strangest item you have seen come through the ReStore? Since I’m the baker, I remember the piggy door stop that was a white elephant gift at a holiday party.
Favorite moment, or what you like about working at the ReStore? I’m a big believer in the recycling of supplies and furniture, etc. to save our environment. Most of all, I love being a part of an organization that helps families help themselves with something as important as owning your own home.
It’s the frosting on the cupcake…

IMG_0843[1] 20151002_144938Thanks to Edgewood High School and Eagle School for volunteering with us with their service learning day!  These great young people shared their time, learned about Habitat for Humanity of Dane County and the Habitat ReStore and hopefully had some fun working with regular staff and volunteers to make the ReStores shine!

Habitat Restore welcomes small community groups who are interested in spending a few hours or a day helping to further the mission of Habitat in our community.  If you are interested, or have questions about service learning or general volunteer opportunities, contact Emily at ReStore East or call 661-2813, ext. 3.

Jacob and Mary 007
How long have you been at the ReStore West: Started Aug. 10, 2015
What’s your favorite part of working at the Restore?
I like the volunteers
About You:
I’m from Freeman, SD. I have a two-year associate’s degree from Hesston College in Kansas
What brought you to Madison?:
My parents encouraged me to apply to the Mennonite Voluntary Service Program. They thought it would be a good experience for me. When I was accepted into the program, I had my choice of cities and programs to live and work in for my year of service. I thought Madison and the ReStore were the best choices. I’ve grown up in a town of 1,200 people, so it was an adjustment to living in a big town, but it’s good. I like Madison.
Hobbies: Sports, soccer is my favorite, and biking. I’ve enjoyed the bike trails around Madison
Living: I live on the near Eastside of Madison with three others who are in the Mennonite Volutary Service Program.
