Position at the Habitat ReStore: Deconstruction
How long have you been working at the ReStore? Since February, 2004.
What’s your favorite part of working at the Restore? Working with the staff and volunteers. It amazes me how hard the volunteers work and how dedicated they are. I also like the challenge dismantling things that were not meant to come apart and most times ending up with something that you can still sell in the store.
Previous or current profession: Agriculture research with the University of Wisconsin Horticulture Department.
First job/weirdest job: Selling shoes at Chandler’s on the square and Hilldale
Hobbies: Woodworking, cross country skiing, camping and taking care of my grandsons
My friends describe me as: I never asked and am not sure I want to know.
What is the strangest item you have seen come through the ReStore? We took apart a log stairway and balcony in a lake cottage. I saw what looked like something that should end up in the fireplace. Frank saw a gem in the rough. I think it sold the same day it hit the sales floor.
Favorite memory, or what you like about working at the ReStore? The new friends I have made. I also like driving around Dane County and saying: “We worked there and we worked over there.” I wish I would have kept count on all the projects we deconstructed.
